On July 6, the “American Idol” season 11 stars are set to kick off their summer tour with what should be an exciting concert in Detroit, and they are already in the process of getting there to set up shop.
Winner Phillip Phillips posted some photos of Twitter of him on board a flight alongside his pal Heejun Han, while Jessica Sanchez said on her account that she is flying out for the city tomorrow instead of today (possibly due to her doing some continued work on her upcoming debut album, which should be released in October).
So why are the contestants getting to Detroit so early? The primary reason may be that they are looking to do some early press while also getting accustomed to a touring environment. They will have some opportunities to simulate a show before going out on stage Friday night, and to work out some of the last-minute kinks and fears before doing the real thing.
While most of the contestants are looking to stay out in Detroit for the entirety of the next few weeks, this cannot exactly be said for Phillip. After spending a few days getting ready, he will then fly out to Washington DC to perform during a 4th of July special to air on PBS. (Sanchez did something similar earlier this year for Memorial Day.) After this is complete, he will then come back and resume his duties with the rest of the top ten. It’s a lot of travel on a guy who is still in the process of recovering from kidney surgery, especially since his recovery time should technically still be going on.
Be sure to check out some of our additional “American Idol” coverage, and keep coming back all week for more buildup leading to the top ten’s debut performance. Following this, we will have course have videos the moment they arrive online.
