On Tuesday night’s new episode of “The Glee Project,” the theme is “Adaptability” — and while just about every cast member on “Glee” knows what it is like to adapt to a scene, it was Kevin McHale who specifically decided to stop by as the guest mentor for the week. His mere presence in the room alone impressed contestant Ali Stroker, who claims that she watches Kevin religiously on the show to see if he “cheats” while acting in a wheelchair … and he never does.
The homework assignment for McHale’s week was actually the most challenging of all — in just a short amount of time the contestants all had to learn the hit Alanis Morissette song “You Oughta Know” and, as a testament to this week’s theme, they had to perform it by themselves in front of McHale as well as casting director Robert Ulrich. Based on the preview video below (which comes to us via E! News), there are already a number of standouts for both positive and negative reasons. Aylin Bayramoglu seems like the obvious winner considering how much she is featured in this week’s music video later in the episode, while Shanna Henderson — minutes after admitting that she didn’t know any of the words of the song prior to the start of the challenge — ended up flubbing the lyrics. The good news for her, though, was that she went on undeterred and finished the performance without a moment’s hesistation.
Although winning the homework assignment does not really give you that great of an advantage on a show like this, it does enable Ulrich and the rest of the crew to realize who are the standout performers of the group even more. Samuel Larsen last year was able to use featured moments and challenge wins to his advantage — while Damian McGinty did the opposite and used his last-chance performances as a way to bond with Ryan Murphy.
