Gus Fring may be dead and buried on “Breaking Bad,” but he is certainly not forgotten — even to the point where Walter White is going to have plenty from Gus’ past to deal with during season 5.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Scottish actress Laura Fraser has been booked to play what is being described, per showrunner Vince Gilligan, as “a former associate of Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) who’s integral to the proceedings of season 5.” This character will first appear during the second episode of the season, which will premiere on Sunday, July 15 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. The fact that this character managed to stay under wraps for as long as it did is an achievement in itself — this part was likely filmed quite a while ago, but somehow just managed to just surface now.
The overall story for this season is still being kept under tight lock and key — we know that Walter is going to start off embracing his role as “The King,” and he will continue to go down a rather dark path because of it. As for Jesse, things are a little bit more unclear — he could either continue down the pre-established road that Walter is on, or he could try to go in a different direction. Despite working together for much of the show’s run, both Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s characters have actually been going in separate directions for much of it — and eventually this could end up leading to a very dramatic parting.
