TNT is showing plenty of confidence in their remake of “Dallas” — after all, they just decided to give the series a second-season renewal despite the revival only being on the air for a few weeks.
After averaging 6.9 million viewers total thus far, programming head Michael Wright had this to say in a statement about the decision to give the Ewings 15 more opportunities to shine next summer:
“Dallas has been a success for us on every level: pitch-perfect writing, smart directing and buzz-worthy performances by a new generation of stars and their iconic counterparts … With Dallas’ top-flight ratings, robust growth through time-shifted viewing and the extensive online buzz, it’s clear the Ewings of Southfork have once again captured the imagination of viewers.”
“Dallas” was not the only program to receive some love from TNT on Friday, as the network also decided to renew ratings smash “Rizzoli & Isles” for a third season. With its launch of over 7 million viewers back in 2010, it still holds the title as the largest series launch ever for the network. Unlike “Dallas” and another TNT series in “Falling Skies,” “Rizzoli & Isles” is a police procedural on par with “The Closer” and its upcoming spin-off “Major Crimes.”
TNT has consistently been one of the most-watched cable networks on the air, and they also tend to use some other measurements beyond just the 18-49 demographic (which is standard for most adult networks) in adults 25.54.
