Finchel fans, put down your hankies for a minute — it’s possible that the “Glee” couple is going to have a future even in spite of the tear-jerking moment in the season finale. Yes, for now things do not look good — Lea Michele’s Rachel is going to be doing her thing at NYADA, and Cory Monteith’s Finn will probably be off at basic training at the start of the year learning how to serve our country. But remember — nothing stays constant on this show for too long outside of Matthew Morrison’s hair.
As a matter of fact, you could even take Monteith’s thoughts to The Hollywood Reporter about season 4 as some sort of glimmer of hope:
“Finn would make a good soldier but I think he’s still got a lot to think about — he still has a lot going for him outside of the Army … His heart is still with Rachel and I think he has a lot of reasons to not be in the Army as well. I think he’d be torn as a soldier.”
Monteith also said that viewers should still very much root for these two to reunite, and he went on to hype up Finchel as one of the best couples in TV history. In our mind, you have to have something resembling a happy ending in order for that title to be bestowed upon you (sorry, Mark and Lexie on “Grey’s Anatomy”), and we refuse to accept the idea that “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy is really going to want to spend all season bouncing back and forth between McKinley High, NYADA, and wherever Finn is learning to be a soldier. Our prediction? That he somehow finds a way back to the love of his life, though there could be some major consequences that come with that. After all, leaving the Army is not exactly an easy thing to do once you join.
