‘G.I. Joe’ sequel placed in ‘Star Trek 2’s’ original release date

Paramount

If you love nostalgia, the following story is most definitely a mix of both good and bad news.

Let’s start with the good news. The sequel to “G.I. Joe” now has a release date! According to new reports, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” (which is a far less exciting name the originally-planned “G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes”) will be opening in theaters on June 29, 2012.

Now, we come to the downside of this. This release date was originally planned for the sequel to the modern “Star Trek” saga, but it was announced at Comic-Con that it would be delayed until either holiday 2012 or the summer of the following year in order to get the script in tip-top shape. (Paramount has picked up the option on the original cast, meaning that we will thankfully see more of Chris Klein as Captain James T. Kirk.)

Which one of these two upcoming films are you more excited to see?
