It looks like the trend of Marines asking random celebrities to attend their annual ball may be over. Why? Some celebrities are actually starting to decline? Following the successful attempts by two soldiers to get Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake to attend the ball later this year them, there have been requests for everyone from Betty White to Miley Cyrus to make an appearance. (White has already declined, while Miley has kept quiet about it.)
Now, Scarlett Johansson has issued a response to Marine Sgt. Dustin Williams — whose video was actually not as popular as some of the others, so it is in many ways a shock that she even spoke out. While she declined the invitation, she is at least sending him a rather creative gift:
“I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams. Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for filmmaking.
“Unfortunately due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moet and Chandon with gratitude. In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the U.S. Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation. – Scarlett”
If there anyone who deserves to date anyone they want, it is a member of the Armed Forces — at the same time, we’re starting to wonder just how many more people are out there that they can even ask.
