Despite airing in the morning rather than in late-night, “The Today Show” has somehow managed to take on an identity of “The Tonight Show” a couple of years ago — that of a show that is managing to crumble courtesy of some changes behind the scenes. We know that Ann Curry’s days are numbered, but how long is she planning to actually stay around? The answer seems to be that her tenure is going to end sooner than you’d think.
According to TMZ, editors for the show are already working on some sort of farewell montage to Curry, which seems a little weird considering that the show is effectively firing her from her co-hosting position. Why make Curry sit through something like this, when it is really going to feel like even more of a kick to the stomach? We personally would not be stunned if the news is announced Friday that she is gone, and that Savannah Guthrie is taking her place. We have to think that “Today” would prefer not to make a change in the middle of the week.
There is another nasty rumor that is floating around the internet at the moment, but we are pleased to report that Natalie Morales is in no way angry about being passed over for the lead anchor job for the second time in just over a year. This rumor started to pick up earlier Wednesday without any sort of evidence of it being true, as Morales is reportedly happy with her role in the news department for the program.
Do you think that “The Today Show” planning an exit montage for Ann Curry is a nice gesture, or does it feel a bit disingenuous to you when you consider what is actually going down behind the scenes?
