‘American Idol’ notes: Carrie Underwood, Jessica Sanchez, and Lee DeWyze

Carrie visited some old friends.

For our second “American Idol” notes of Wednesday, June 27, we’re starting things out with a rather interesting story about Carrie Underwood — she still attended her recent high school reunion in Oklahoma despite arguably being one of the biggest stars in music the state has ever seen.

In a video interview with the Associated Press from London (where she recently performed and did a string of promotional appearances), the season 4 winner said that she had a great time catching up with a lot of old friends — and even claimed that the vast majority of people were extremely nice and welcoming. However, she did say that she ended up taking a few pictures and signing the occasional autograph — which is going to happen anytime you are celebrity, regardless of whether or not you knew most of the people you were spending time with at some point in your life.

Jessica starts recording – There’s not too much to say here, but following the news that Jessica Sanchez has been officially signed to Interscope Records, she posted on her Twitter account late Tuesday night that she has already started to lay down some music for her debut album (which will probably come out in October or November).

Expect the sound of the disc to be a little bit more urban, and not nearly as ballad-driven as some of her performances were during the season.

Lee’s coming to “Hell’s Kitchen” – Following Taylor Hicks going on “The Choice” earlier this month, Lee DeWyze is the second “American Idol” winner to show up on a summer Fox reality show — though he is not looking for any help in the love department thanks to his engagement to Jonna Walsh.

Instead, Lee posted on his own Twitter that he is going to be at the chef’s table during Monday night’s new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen,” where he will have the rare honor of seeing Chef Gordon Ramsay swear at people loudly enough to shatter eardrums. Lee is following up Tito Ortiz and Sugar Ray Leonard, who each made appearances at the table on Tuesday night’s episode.

As always, check back soon for more “American Idol” news!
