We are once again in a bit of a quiet period when it comes to the world of “American Idol,” and consequently this edition of the notes is actually spanning a lengthier period of time than most.
Jessica’s “big news” – This should not come as any surprise at all, but Jessica Sanchez has officially landed a record deal with Interscope. How do we know? She said so in response to a fan on her Twitter account.
While you may think that the reigning runner-up is guaranteed a record deal, it is actually not guaranteed for contestants any more. All that is promised to a contestant outside of the winner is the opportunity to release a few songs, and then 19, Interscope, and the rest of the team can figure out if they want to do more. This was put into the contract in the event that the runner-up was someone without much recording potential, but lucky for the producers Jessica’s sky is the limit.
Casey’s big release – Just in case you haven’t heard yet, Casey Abrams has released his brand-new album from Concord Records! It’s really the perfect summer album in many ways — it’s fun, breezy, and shows off all of his strengths whether it be his musicianship or some of his pop / jazz leanings. We wish some of the music was getting a little bit more play on the radio, but hopefully some of that will come once the word gets out.
A new Carrie Underwood cover – Carrie Underwood continued her recent traveling ways by heading to Australia, and while in Melbourne she did a smart move and covered a local classic in “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS.
As if the applause below isn’t evidence enough, the fans seemed to love it. Hats off to Carrie for showing a bit of Australian flair, and let’s hope that she keeps it up the rest of the tour.
As always, check back soon for more “American Idol” news.
