Just how popular has Tim Tebow become? Before we get into the finer details, let’s try to put this in perspective. He’s a backup quarterback on the New York Jets, was traded there from the Denver Broncos, and yet he now is one of the rare athletes to get his own half-hour special airing on E!.
The program is going to be called “Tim Tebow’s Wild Ride,” and will revolve all around how Tebow became the football player and the man that he is today. Much of the reason behind the “Tebowmania” craze has been due to his strong Christian beliefs, which include him abstaining from sexual activity until marriage and him kneeling to God at pivotal moments during games. (This action, known as “Tebowing,” has taken on a life of its own and become a massive internet meme.)
Unfortunately, this special does not actually contain any one-on-one interviews with Tebow himself; instead, producers talk with his friends, former high school connections, and sports journalists who have been around him for years to try and determine just what makes this guy the phenomenon that he is.
By far, Tebow may be the most-famous backup quarterback in all of the NFL — and we have a feeling that the fans in New York will start chanting his name the moment something ends up going south with Mark Sanchez on the field this coming season.
Do you think Tebow is worthy of having his own NFL special — and are you planning to watch?
