Will life in “Downton Abbey” ever be the same? Based on the clip we have just seen for season 3 of the British import, it looks safe to say that the Dorager Countess is going to have herself a new “frenemy” to face off with.
The clip — which features our first look at Shirley MacLaine as Lady Cora’s mother Martha — was first unveiled over the weekend at a TV Land gala honoring the legendary actress. Unfortunately, all it really features is just a brief conversation between her character and Maggie Smith’s aforementioned character at the abbey. At least it does already look like we are going to have plenty of barbs thrown in all directions — and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Unfortunately, we are still going to be waiting for quite a while for the series to return to America with new episodes. Although “Downton Abbey” will air season 3 this fall on British station ITV, PBS (unless they change it this year) will likely not air the show until early the following year. Even though the wait is still long, we have a feeling that the writers, producers, and of course the extraordinary cast will find a way to make it well worth it.
“Downton Abbey” is competing for the first time in the Drama Series category for the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards, and we already have a feeling that it will be considered a favorite to walk away with at least one trophy for Smith’s performance. However, the show overall may struggle against the likes of “Homeland,” “Mad Men,” and “Breaking Bad.”
Are you excited to see what MacLaine brings to the series?
