‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’: Bruce Jenner talks Kim Kardashian’s marriage

Mrs. Carter: Finally we get to hear from Bruce.

Since we have covered the Kardashians’ two-part appearance on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” from just about every other angle over the past few weeks, we wanted to focus our look at Sunday night’s special this time about one person who does not always receive a ton of airtime in the midst of conversation about his stepdaughters and his wife Kris — Bruce Jenner. Despite his questionable taste in fashion in the attached photo, he’s a smart guy who takes a realistic approach on life, and he also had a pretty interesting take on Kim’s short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries.

When prompted for his thoughts about the lavish wedding special (which was filmed for E! and made everyone involved plenty of money), Bruce said that the entire family went “overboard” when it came to just about every finer detail. Then again, there are still two caveats with this statement that make his comments a little less shocking of a headline than you would initially expect:

1. Kim has already said the same thing herself when it comes to being overboard, so it’s not exactly like Bruce is touching on new ground here. Kim wanted it to feel like her fairy tale, and it just wasn’t one that had a happy ending.

2. Bruce also told Oprah that he and his Kris were married after a brief courtship, so it’s exactly like what Kim did. If you add in the quick marriage of Khloe Kardashian to Lamar Odom, then it’s almost common practice for this family.

As we’ve said time and time again, there really wasn’t much in this special that is going to get Kim’s haters to suddenly flip-flop and start cheering her on. However, it does reassure her fans that there are real people underneath the faces you see on TV, and that their mistakes are not necessarily faked just because they are mistakes that lead to plenty of press.

What did you specifically think about Bruce’s portion of the interview?
