Now, we have our first look at what may be one of the most-anticipated films of all awards season 2011 — “The Ides of March.” George Clooney is stepping into the director’s chair to tell the story of a Presidential candidate (also played by Clooney) who gets drawn into a major (and rather inconvenient) scandal courtesy of one of his own aides (played by Ryan Gosling. As the posted to the left clearly indicates, there is supposed to be some sort of mirror-image effect going on here between the two characters.
As if the presence of these two heavy-hitters was not enough to sway moviegoers, the film also has the extra-special punch of Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti. Earlier this week, we announced that “Ides” would hold its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival — which is particularly unusual for a move squarely about U.S. politics. (Suffice it to say — this is probably not going to have a cheery tone for much of the run time.)
