Despite the fact that the two have never even officially confirmed that they are dating, the tabloids have taken it upon themselves yet again to say that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are ready to make the next major move forward in their relationship. A source from Star Magazine (who is choosing to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) had the following to say about it:
“Ian is 10 years older than she is and more than ready to make it official. But he said he understands her need to wait a little longer.”
This same source also claims that Nina does not want to get married for another five years, but the hope from Ian’s perspective is that she changes her mind before then.
Now that we’ve said what the tabloid alleges, let’s turn to the likely truth — mostly in that it is hard to believe that there is any reason for Ian to push this relationship further when the two seem to be more than happy with the way things currently are. The “Vampire Diaries” stars prefer to keep their dating life behind closed doors, and this seems to be common for actors on the show — Candice Accola and Zach Roerig barely ever mentioned their relationship, and Paul Wesley’s marriage to Torrey DeVitto was kept secret until after it happened. (DeVitto and Wesley were married, though, long before she ever joined this show.) When there’s so much evidence of a happy relationship, why stir things up with quotes that are likely taken out of context?
We will have real updates on Ian and Nina’s relationship whenever they come up — but considering how much these two like to keep this part of their life quiet, it’s hard to expect much. The only thing we really take from this story is that Nina and Ian have now hit the same level as another high-powered couple from a vampire-related franchise — Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who have new rumors about their relationship on the internet pretty much every other day.
