You can pretty much say it officially at this point — the “Jersey Shore” cast altogether is better than all of its individual stars are on their own. While “Snooki & JWoww” kicked off Thursday night with some numbers that put “The Pauly D Project” to shame, they were still far inferior to what saw from the flagship series on a regular basis.
Overall, Snooki and JWoww’s spin-off show — which featured her first telling JWoww that she was both pregnant and engaged — drew a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic along with over 2.3 million viewers. While these numbers are less than half of what “Jersey Shore” traditionally pulls in, there is some good news — thanks to the show airing up against the NBA Finals, there may have been more people recording it than usual. Expect a smaller week-to-week drop than we usually see with new shows next week (though we would be shocked to see it actually gain viewers).
“Snooki & JWoww” ultimately lost the ratings battle on cable to a number of series — including “Swamp People” (which was #1 with a 1.3 rating), “Suits” (1.2), and “Burn Notice.” Just because you know how to fist-pump does not always mean that you are going to be a ratings machine — if this doesn’t prove it, we don’t know what will.
While it may sound strange, this episode may have been imperative to the future of Snooki on reality TV after her baby is born. She is currently shooting what could likely be her last “Jersey Shore,” and she needs to know whether or not she can be viable just living something closer to her everyday life in front of the cameras. Since she is more of a ratings draw than JWoww, this number does show that Snooki can have a reasonably successful show. However, the issue now is trying to retain these people week to week.
