On Monday night’s new episode of “The Bachelorette,” we are finally going to figure out just what the tabloids have been talking about for months when it comes to Arie Luyendyk Jr. and his past relationship with show producer Cassie Lambert. Is it as big of a deal as the headlines have made it out to be? It doesn’t sound like it, and Lambert has pretty much said so herself.
It was surprising to see this story became so important to the show after the fact, mostly because it was apparently such a non-factor during taping that some of Arie’s fellow contestants didn’t even know that it happened. In a conference call with reporters this week, Jef Holm (who was friends with Arie throughout taping) said that it wasn’t until following the taping of the show that he found out anything about Lambert and what transpired:
“I didn’t find out until after I had gotten home. That’s really weird to me because Arie and I developed a really good friendship and we communicated about everything. It’s so strange to me because he would come back home to the hotel after one of his dates and he’d be like, ‘Emily just feels like there’s something that I’m hiding from her or something that I’m holding back and I have no idea what it is’. And I obviously had no idea that he dated one of the producers so I was just like, ‘What do you think it is?’ And of course once I got home and I figured that out, I was just like, ‘Duh!’ So it never came up one time, and as soon as I found out I was like, ‘That’s obviously what it was that she felt like you were hiding’. She found out and I know she didn’t address it immediately with him – she kept trying to get him to open up and talk about it and I think next week you’ll find out a lot more about that. It’s a really shocking and a really cool, interesting story.”
What is particular interesting about Jef’s comments is that he seems to dance around what he thinks Arie’s intentions were for not opening up about his past, and this is the very same question that we have. Why didn’t he just tell Emily sooner? The only thing we can really think of is that he didn’t want to focus on his past, and he dated Lambert for such a short time years ago that it wasn’t really a major deal. It’s also possible that he didn’t want to focus the little time he had opening up the ex-files since they have no bearing on his present.
What do you think about Jef’s comments on this subject? For those of you who love poking fun at this show, we have another edition of the spoof “Burning Love” below.
