We have heard plenty when it comes to surprising “Glee” casting over the years, but this has to rank somewhere pretty high on the list.
According to TVLine, recent “American Idol” contestant Jessica Sanchez — who made it all the way to the final two thanks to her incredible voice and devoted fan base — is in talks to do a multi-episode arc on season 4 of the Fox musical comedy. She would come in and start work on the show after her time on the show tour is over, but that’s really all we know when it comes to details at the moment.
Presumably, it would make the most sense for her to come in to New Directions as a replacement for Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry — who is now off now in New York City. There’s not a current singer within the group that has that sort of power vocal range, and Sanchez fits the bill perfectly. She’s also young enough to play a freshman or sophomore, so she could be around on the show for some time. However, you also have to wonder how long she would want to be a cast member if creating a solo album is where her heart lies. If nothing else, this appearance could amount to some of the best publicity ever for a contestant in the months coming after the show.
Jessica is the first “American Idol” finalist to ever make it this deep in the discussion process for a role, though she’s not the only person who has auditioned in the past. Samuel Larsen made it to Hollywood Week in season 9 before getting cut, and Heather Morris was a contestant on sister show “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Do you think Jessica on “Glee” would be a great move both for herself and the show?
