While Justin Bieber fans may dominate Twitter, the same cannot be said for the average television viewing audience. As a matter of fact, “Beliebers” may have been the only people tuning in to see his “All Around the World” concert special on NBC Wednesday night.
NBC – The hour-long event (which is going to continue Thursday) drew just a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.3 million viewers. Considering that many of Justin’s fans are under 18, this number is probably not as bad as it seems. However, you have to imagine the network was hoping for more from a special that was trending worldwide all night, and also was publicized constantly courtesy of headlines as the special was being filmed.
Fox – “So You Think You Can Dance” was down a tenth versus last week’s final ratings, but its 2.4 was reasonably steady and was also enough to win the night by a mile.
ABC – “Duets” continues to hold on to the slim audience that it has, and was steady for the second straight week en route to scoring just a 1.1 rating. “Duets” goes live next week, but considering the structure of this show it’s hard to see if this will really matter (even with America voting).
CBS – The final network with new programming, The Eye ran a new “Dogs in the City” that scored just a 1.0 rating. If nothing else, you have to give the network credit for not putting this show in the doghouse considering some of its low ratings. It will be replaced by “Big Brother 14” in July, so the good news is that they won’t have to deal with its low numbers for much longer.
Are you surprised that Bieber’s show pulled the numbers that it did?
