‘Mad Men’: Jennifer Westfeldt talks love with Jon Hamm

His relationship works

Mrs Carter: Don Draper has the moves on and off the screen

When you think of “Mad Men” you can’t help but think of Don Draper – smart, slick and a bit of a ladies’ man, but in real life actor Jon Hamm has been in a committed relationship for 14 years with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt and has no plans of moving on.

While many celebrity couples come and go in Hollywood, Jon and Jennifer have found the secret to a long lasting relationship. So what’s their secret to everlasting happiness?  Westfeldt tells the Huffington Post that a good relationship takes work if you want to see it succeed.  She said;

“Relationships take work.  You don’t take each other for granted. He’s the funniest person I know.  He’s the sweetest guy I know. He’s brilliant. He’s my best friend.”

Jon is a West Coast kinda guy while Jennifer can’t give up the hustle and bustle of New York City, so the couple splits their time between the two places.  Distance makes the heart grow fonder?  At this point the pair don’t have any children, but find it interesting to watch their friends become parents, which lead to the inspiration for their film “Friends With Kids”.  Jennifer said;

“We wrote the film [“Friends with Kids”] in response to so many of our friends becoming parents, and it’s this incredibly profound transition. You are sort of watching your friends and losing them one by one because they kind of go underground for a while when they are new parents.  We were interested in that transition.”

Many people have likely asked Jennifer and Jon if they plan to tie the knot or have children of their own, but if something ain’t broke, why fix it? Hordes of other celebrity couples have taken that long trip down the aisle or decided to add children to the mix and their relationships have ended where as Jon and Jennifer are still going strong with no signs of stopping.  Maybe it’s best not to fit into the mold that society laid out for us and instead carve out your own path – perhaps that the key to true happiness in a long lasting relationship.
