Are Ann Curry’s days on “The Today Show” numbered? This is something that has been whispered around for several weeks now, but it now is starting to look like it could very well be coming to fruition.
According to the New York Times, the producers behind the hit NBC show are already coming up with an exit strategy for Curry, which may involve her moving into a role as a foreign correspondent. While she has been a stellar reporter for hard news over the years, her chemistry at times with Matt Lauer has been off; in addition, she lacks the sort of fun in the lighthearted fare that Katie Couric and Meredith Vieira excelled at.
While it may not be fair to blame the 16-year winning streak for “Today” over “Good Morning America” ending solely on Curry, she is one of the few changes in the past several months while every other face associated with the show has stayed the same.
As for who could end up replacing Curry in the co-anchor’s chair, the current rumors are that Savannah Guthrie is the current favorite to take over, though there will probably be some people out there who vote for Natalie Morales to take the job. Either way, “Today” has a tendency to prefer hiring from within — even if they did take Vieira away from “The View” to give her Couric’s old job.
None of this news has yet to be confirmed, and here’s the question that we want answered — do you think Curry is the reason for the “Today” ratings drop, and who is the best replacement out there for her if she is moved or steps down?
