While the reviews were not exactly great about the “X Factor” talent that was present in Kansas City, the reviews do seem to be a little bit more positive when it comes to the people coming out of the San Francisco / Oakland area.
In a new video posted to the show’s official website, Demi Lovato in particular said that there were some groups that ended up doing rather well in the area — something the show needs after a pretty weak first season in this category:
“I’ve seen a few people in groups that really caught our attention … it’s definitely better than Kansas City.”
Meanwhile, Britney Spears also tried to explain her judging philosophy — which was to be tough on the contestants who were putting themselves out there, but at the same time fair so that no one ended up feeling like she was being mean for no reason at all:
“I think I’m a fair judge … Sometimes it’s hard because I know what they’ve been through and being so young and [wanting to] achieving their dreams.”
As we’ve said for the entire filming process so far, hearing these sort of positive impressions about the judges in the audition rounds is great — at the same time, though, how will they function alone in the judges’ houses phase, or during the live portion of the season? This is where the pressure is actually high, and people are forced into making some rather tough decisions pertaining to who actually stays in the competition, and who goes out of the people they are genuinely invested in. (It’s a little easier to send away people you just met.)
Stay tuned — we’re going to have plenty more coverage leading up to the show’s September 12 premiere!
