After some intense fan campaigns to try and get him to play the role of Christian Grey in an upcoming film adaptation of “50 Shades of Grey,” Ian Somerhalder is toning things down a bit — mostly because he doesn’t want to give the wrong impression about his interest in his part (or that he is going to be emotionally devastated if the role doesn’t land in his lap).
In a new series of posts on Twitter, the star of “The Vampire Diaries” tried to make it clear that while he would love the opportunity to be involved in the project, he also does not want anyone to boycott the movie or get overly upset in the event that he is not cast in it:
“OK, this Christian Grey thing has gotten out of control. Know this, Im not ‘desperate’ to do anything except relax today.Be positive people. Its what makes the world go round. Relax. Hating sucks. I probably wont even get to audition for the role-don’t worry. Smile :)”
While the role may seem great for Somerhalder on paper, and it probably would be, there are still some major complications that make him a long shot choice. First and foremost, his role as Damon Salvatore in “The Vampire Diaries” keeps him in Atlanta for long stretches of the year, and they would literally have to organize filming the whole movie around his TV schedule, which does not even leave that much in the way of openings once you factor in promotional appearances. He is also ather busy when it comes to promoting environmental awareness and animal rights through his foundation.
Stay tuned — we will have more on this story as it breaks. The main thing we all have to remember is that there is no bad news –even if Ian doesn’t land the part, we still have more seasons of vampire goodness to enjoy in the future.
