You’ve seen the headlines over the past few weeks about Justin Bieber getting chased around by fans and the paparazzi — and on Wednesday night, Justin Bieber’s “All Around the World” special is set to air.
The concert special (which will continue into Thursday) features the 18-year old singing superstar traveling everywhere from Oslo, Norway to Mexico City, where he is performing as a way to promote his new album “Believe.” From a commercial standpoint, the special is a perfect way for NBC to try and use the Bieber phenomenon for ratings, but it also works perfectly in his favor — “Believe” hit stores in America on Tuesday, and while a #1 debut seems to be a given at this point, he would likely be happy to see that number get up as high as possible.
For those out there who are not diehard Bieber fans, what could be a potential benefit in watching this special is seeing just how the world reacts to someone who is an international star, and how far some fans are willing to go just to catch a glimpse at their idol. Celebrity has always been a fascinating phenomenon, but seeing it travel to a level where people are chasing someone’s car down the street is something that takes it to a whole new level. For his last stop in Mexico, there were reportedly 20,000 police officers around just to ensure that things don’t get out of hand.
You can check out a brief promo for “All Around the World” below, and we’ll have some more coverage of this a little later in the week. Are you planning to watch this special, and if so, is it for any other reason besides being a member of the Bieber faithful?
