‘Teen Mom’ review: Does knowing Amber Portwood’s end ruin season?

It’s only getting sadder.

There aren’t many joys in watching a show as consistently depressing as “Teen Mom,” but one of them over the years has been knowing that there could be some hope for a few of the people in the cast.

However, much of that hope is now extinguished when it comes to Amber Portwood. We know that she is off somewhere in Indiana sitting inside of a prison cell, and that isn’t going to change anytime soon as she admitted that she is completely powerless to stop her addiction. Therefore, she feels that the only way that she can conquer it is behind bars. So take this information, and then try and draw a parallel of watching her in rehab on the show. This footage was shot last year, and watching it is almost like an ice pick falling on your head — you know it’s going to hurt. She’s warned to stay away from her on-again, off-again boyfriend Gary Shirley, and we know how that turns out — the same can be said for her addiction.

There are other things that are happening on the show, but it’s a bit harder to focus on them — especially Catelynn Lowell’s happy graduation, which comes after her child is pretty much written out of the show. Meanwhile, we also saw Maci Bookout try and get ready for a vacation with her ex Ryan Edwards, and Farrah complain about the idea of her father moving down to Florida, where she is now trying to start a new life. (Happy times, no?)

We don’t know how this show is going to continue some of its stories for its final season, but we are rooting for everyone — but the issue here is that when you know the story doesn’t have a happy ending for at least one of them, you almost feel silly for getting so invested.

Is this season starting to become too depressing, even by “Teen Mom” standards, for you to watch?
