On Monday, August 13 (otherwise known as right in the middle of Olympic season), NBC is going to be getting rather patriotic courtesy of a new show entitled “Stars Earn Stripes” — one where celebrities all attempt to get a greater understanding of military training by taking part in various objectives and obstacles.
The network has announced that cast, and it is really a rather interesting collection of names you may have heard of and people who already have tangible connections to the network:
-Former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant and boxer Laila Ali
-Actor Dean Cain
-“Are We There Yet?” actor Terry Crews
-“The Sing-Off” host Nick Lachey
-Sarah Palin’s husband Todd Palin
-Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street
-“The Biggest Loser” trainer Dolvett Quince
-WWE Diva Eve Torres
There’s another “Dancing with the Stars” connection here in that Samantha Harris, who co-hosted the show for several seasons before Brooke Burke-Charvet took over. She will be joined on this show by General Wesley Clark — who is getting his first opportunity to take on the world of celebrities. While this cast is not the most amazing one we have ever seen assembled for a reality series, there are some interesting names here — including Crews, who we have personally always felt was an underrated performer in just about every thing that he has appeared in.
For fans of Quince, this will actually be the only time you see him on television for the rest of 2012 (at least in series form) — “The Biggest Loser” is not a part of the fall schedule, but he will return with more contestants at midseason.
What do you think about this cast, and about the idea of a reality show specifically meant to honor the military while also having a bit of fun?
