Are you ready to have your day absolutely made? Let’s hope so. (The fact that we recently just re-watched the pilot for “Lost” makes this all the more exciting.)
According to TVLine, Emilie de Ravin has been promoted to a series regular for season 2 of “Once Upon a Time,” where she will continue the captivating work she did as Belle during three episodes of the show this past year. (Granted, one of these episodes was basically a cameo appearance.)
This move was not one that was always in the cards. Before showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz knew what the fate of her pilot “Americana” was going to be, they decided to put Belle in a position during the season finale where she could be by Rumpelstiltskin’s side in Storybrooke as magic was starting to spread through the town. Since ABC opted to pass on de Ravin’s pilot, it frees up the actress (who is probably still best remembered as Oceanic survivor Claire) for some extended time on this show. There’s no guarantee that she will be a permanent fixture for years to come, but still a potential 22 episodes of Belle is more than we ever hoped for when she first popped up on the screen.
What will be most interesting with this story is seeing now what Belle manages to do as a calming influence in Rumpelstiltskin’s life. He clearly wants power to protect his own hide, but isn’t love something more powerful than that in the world of fairy tales? If he allows his greed get in the way of his heart once again, he could soon be a beast without his beauty and end up right back where he started.
What’s your reaction to this news? No firm premiere date for season 2 has been set yet, but expect to see the show back in the fall.
