It’s been over a decade since Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford last sat down together for an edition of their popular “Live!” broadcasts, but the two are set to be back together as co-hosts this week — and ironically, for their former show’s competition.
During the Fourth Hour of “The Today Show” this week, Kathie Lee announced that Regis would be coming on board the show on Wednesday as a fill-in host for Hoda Kotb. While this may or may not provide much in the way of a ratings bump for the show, it should at least certainly make things interesting – Then again, any show with Regis on it is generally pretty interesting to begin with.
Following Kathie Lee’s departure, Regis stayed on board his “Live!” show with Kelly Ripa until late last year, when he ended his run after a new contract could not be reached between the parties. Since that point, the talk show has used a variety of guest hosts, and they have still not found a permanent replacement.
Hopefully, this announcement will take some heat off of Kathie Lee, who is still trying to recover in the headlines following the great Martin Short disaster from earlier this spring. Since Short has already accepted her apology, isn’t it time to move on?
What do you think about Regis and Kathie Lee reuniting? Since Regis has already said that he has no intentions of retiring, we could see him landing some sort of show of his own in the near future.
