For the first time really since Amy Winehouse shockingly passed away over the weekend, we are hearing from her father Mitch in some sort of public venue. In an official statement, Mitch had this to say to honor his daughter on the same day that many others (including Kelly Osbourne) came out in support of the singer:

“Knowing she wasn’t depressed, knowing she passed away happy – it makes us all feel better. She was the happiest she has been for years.”

Mitch also claimed that Winehouse had not had a drink in “three weeks,” and was in a relationship with Reg Traviss that actually excited her.

As for what Mitch plans to do in order to honor his daughter moving forward, he says he intends on creating an Amy Winehouse Foundation to support some of the causes that the singer long supported — including helping children and animals (especially horses).

It will still be several weeks before we truly know what caused Winehouse’s sudden passing — a toxicology screening is currently being conducted.
