‘American Idol’ notes: Kris Allen, Phillip Phillips, and Carrie Underwood

Is it time for a new single?

For the Tuesday morning edition of “American Idol” notes, we are kicking things off by talking about airplay — but stay tuned, as we’re closing with a new video courtesy of Carrie Underwood.

Woes for new singles – Are Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, and Haley Reinhart all in trouble? Based on some new airplay data, they may want to consider some new singles soon after their current hits seem to be leveling off on the Hot AC chart.

Let’s frame our analysis of the data by saying this — between the three artists, the two have only gained 40 spins combined in the past week. Typically, that’s a sign that they are at their peak, and a drop is coming at some point in the near future. It’s particularly sad for Kris and Haley, who are more in danger of losing their record deals than Adam, who seems locked in thanks to scoring a #1 debut (plus all of his international success).

So what can be done? Hopefully they will each get another single to shine, and the requests and airplay will pick up.

“Home” songwriter speaks outPhillip Phillips is currently rising fast up this same chart with his coronation song “Home,” and now one of the people responsible for writing the track is speaking out about its success.

In a chat with local site The Daily Record, Scottish artist Greg Holden says he is still surprised that Jimmy Iovine liked the song enough to suggest it to Phillip, and that it is obtaining so much success:

“It’s the biggest thing that’s happened to me … If sales reach 500,000, I will get myself a little gold disc, which would be incredible.”

Holden’s career has thus far been restricted to a few songs here and there plus some success in Denmark, but having “Home” on his resume may not help to push him towards his own dream of being a successful singer/songwriter. If you haven’t heard his version of the song yet, you can do so below.

A new Carrie Underwood interview – Yes, the following interview featuring Carrie Underwood is incredibly silly — but, you should really check it out anyway. After all, where else do you hear about what sort of bad nickname she was given in school? (The video comes via True Country.)
