There have been few noteworthy auditions on “The X Factor” this season, at least when it comes to contestants interesting enough to spark the attention of the press. However, one reasonably big name has now hit the stage — and it may end up having the same sort of effect that Jane Carrey had when she tried out for “American Idol” this past season.
According to TMZ, Gene Simmons’ daughter Sophie — who is already well-known thanks to her time on “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” — auditioned for Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, L.A. Reid, and Demi Lovato over the weekend at the show’s Oakland auditions. With it being the weekend of Father’s Day, it was only appropriate that the KISS rocker was in attendance.
So why did Sophie choose to audition for this show, especially when her father can give her pretty much any connection money can buy? Apparently, she wanted to shine by her own merits rather than just being Gene’s kid, and the best way for her to do that was by trying out on a show where everyone is supposed to be judged fairly (even if it doesn’t always happen). If we had to guess, Sophie will probably be carried through to the bootcamp stage of the show — but at that point, she would have to be exceptional in order to make it into the live rounds. With her having such a built-in following already, she could be a built-in ringer to go far in the show; and unless she is head and shoulders above the rest, we’re not sure that this is a gamble that Simon and company would ultimately want to take out of fear of being questioned about the show’s fairness.
Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to see Sophie’s audition for ourselves when “The X Factor” premieres on Fox this September. What do you think about her auditioning for this show rather than relying on her dad?
