For those twenty-somethings out there (including this writer) who grew up with Nickelodeon, there’s no question that a certain part of ours lives that will always contain repeats of “Doug,” “All That,” and “Clarissa Explains It All.”
Therefore, we were elated when the announcement was made that on Monday night Teen Nick is going to kick off their new programming block at midnight entitled “The ’90s Are All That,” something designed to give us that bit of nostalgia exactly when we need it most — when we are having trouble sleeping due to too much caffeine. (Who loves orange soda?)
Monday’s edition of the block is going to contain four shows that so many of us know and love:
“All That” – The Nick version of “Saturday Night Live,” and it actually introduced us to the likes of Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes, and Nick Cannon.
“Kenan & Kel” – One of the funniest sitcoms for the under-18 audience ever. It was ridiculous, had so many fantastic episodes (their version of Comic-Con), and makes us miss Kel Mitchell to this day.
“Clarissa Explains It All” – The wacky and wonderful show that launched Melissa Joan Hart’s career.
“Doug” – Need we say more? Everyone loves Doug Funnie!
There are still many other fantastic shows from this era that it would be nice to see on here (from “The Amanda Show” to “Rocko’s Modern Life” to “Salute Your Shorts” and a personal favorite in “Hey Arnold!”) — and there are many of them that the network has already advertised when it comes to coming on in the future. Hats off to Teen Nick for kick-starting that feeling that so many of us haven’t felt in some time. Do you feel it? It’s childhood calling.
