‘American Idol’ notes: Phillip Phillips, Haley Reinhart, and Scotty McCreery

Phillip's new Twitter handle is...

For our Sunday edition of “American Idol” notes, we are starting things off with an update courtesy of a man who is still working on making himself a marketing aficionado — Phillip Phillips.

Phillip’s new Twitter handle – During “American Idol,” all of the contestants who make it into the top 24 (or 25 in the case of this season) are given a handle on the social-networking site that are either just their last name or their last name with the first initial of their first name plus “AI11” attached at the end. Confusing, no? It’s also so much more fun when the contestants get to exercise their creativity.

With that in mind, our reigning champ has now changed his Twitter to something far more appealing than @PPhillipsAI11 — @Phillips. Aren’t you a little bit surprised that he got this handle? When we here this word, we typically think of electronics. Phillip and Skylar Laine (who is now @Skylar_Laine) are the first members of the top 12 from this season with new handles.

Scotty McCreery talks university decor – For those of you who may not have heard, Scotty McCreery recently announced that he is going to be attending North Caroline State University in the fall. In other words, he’s going to stay busy!

So is Scotty planning to take all of his recent awards (including an honor from CMT along with an ACM Award) with him to school? Don’t count on it. According to Taste of Country, Scotty is trying to keep things safe:

“We’ve got a few signs, and my buddy’s got a big deer head we’re going to put in the living room … I don’t think we’re going to put any of my awards in there. We’re trying to keep things safe.”

A new Haley Reinhart video – Finally, we’re going to close things out here with a video courtesy of Fox 11 L.A., which features Haley Reinhart. Much of this interview contains some quotes from Haley that we have heard before, but it is at least plenty of fun.

With that being said, this is one of the quietest newsroom interviews we have ever seen.

As always, check back soon for more “American Idol” news!
