Either the writers are stupid or they think we and Varys, Tyrion and Peter are stupid.
All three men have met Ned Stark. All three knew his reputation. I doubt any of them believed that Jon Snow was Ned’s bastard.
Its first order logic. If Jon Snow is not Ned’s bastard, where did he come from? Ned went to the Tower of Joy, no baby. Ned came back from the Tower of Joy with a baby. Hmmm. Who was in the Tower of Joy that could have a baby? Lyanna Stark, Ned’s sister. But it takes two to tango. Who was the most likely daddy? Not Robert Baratheon. No, only Aegyar Tregaryen could have fathered Jon. Connect the dots, first order logic, only a soused Rob Baratheon couldn’t see this. Jon Snow is Lyanna Stark’s and Aegyar Tregaryen’s bastard. He could have been an interesting piece in the Great Game like Gendry.
But he took himself off the board by joining the Night’s Watch.
Despite this, Robb Stark, just before the “Red Wedding” legitimizes Jon as Jon Stark. He also makes him his heir if he and the baby should die.
But Jon is of the Watch. Then he is murdered. He DIED. His watch ended.
When he came back to life, though he obviously doesn’t know it, he is Jon Stark, Lord of Winterfell and King in the North.
Now this is something that people like Peter Baelish are supposed to know.. Not only is Jon King in the North, he has a claim on the Iron Throne as a Tregaryen.
Peter waits for the right moment, swoops in with the Knights of the Vale to hand victory to Jon and join his inner circle as an advisor. He doesn’t need Sansa anymore.
