Usually when a major actor is interested in taking on a big-time movie role, they handle expressing their interest in a way that is behind the scenes and not in a public forum. However, Ian Somerhalder is taking a rather different approach when it comes to wanting to play Christian Grey in the upcoming “50 Shades of Grey” feature film. And by “different approach,” we mean that it really couldn’t be more different if you tried.
The “Vampire Diaries” actor has made his interest about joining the film crystal clear at just about every turn, and he made it so yet again in a new post on his Twitter account as a part of a discussion with Bret Easton Ellis (of “American Psycho” fame):
“Id so love to be Christian Grey w/you&Angelina Jolie. Ive only waited 10 years to do a movie w/u. Im grown up now-no worries.”
If Ian does end up landing the part, it is going to create a new unique set of challenges for him in trying to find the time to actually shoot. Playing Damon Salvatore and promoting “The Vampire Diaries” takes up a good two-thirds of the year, and the studio would have to find a way to organize the production schedule so that it accommodates both where Ian has to be and when he has to be there. With Ian, this may be a challenge when there are other candidates who are not so tied down. (Yes, we know this is a pretty ironic line given the subject matter here.)
“50 Shades of Grey” first started to take the internet by storm earlier this year, and has since been spoofed in a variety of different mediums — including a memorable sketch on “Saturday Night Live.” No matter who they cast, let’s just hope that producers find a way to do the source material justice.
