For our second “American Idol” notes of the day Friday, we are focusing primarily on the winner and runner-up of season 11 — and to go along with that, we have some exciting news for those of you who want to see Ryan Seacrest continue in his quest to take over the world. (Now if we could just find him an evil cat for him to pet while he plots his future conquests.)
Jessica promotes Philippine tourism – In case you haven’t heard yet (and that is pretty unlikely at this point), Jessica Sanchez is rather popular in the Philippines. She is half-Filipino (although she was born and raised here in America), and across the world she is already considered to be an international superstar despite not even releasing an album just yet.
Just in case you want even more evidence of her mass popularity in the country, tourism officials have even used an image of her to help promote travel to the country. We can only imagine just how intense her performance is going to be in the country on September 21 — which is when the show’s live tour will be making its only stop outside of North American in Manila. (As for other international destinations, they will be heading to Toronto for a performance.)
Phillip saddened by store robbery – In turning from happy news to something that is rather depressing, Phillip Phillips’ father is speaking out for the first time about his pawn shop in Leesburg, Georgia being burglarized earlier this week.
In a new interview with a local Fox affiliate, the proud dad (who was seen in the audience at times during season 11) said that his son was more downtrodden than anything else after first hearing the news — which is more than understandable considering the passion that the family once had for the store:
“He shook his head and said, ‘Dang, Daddy I hate to hear that. …Well, that’s how some people in the world are.'”
You can make a pretty obvious connection between the robbery and Phillip giving the pawn shop more publicity, but it’s hard to blame it solely on him being a reality TV superstar. The important thing here is that the men responsible for the robbery are being brought to justice, and have already been arrested. Two of the parties charged are being held without bond.
Will Ryan Seacrest buy Dick Clark Productions? – For those of you who love the business side of “Idol,” this one’s for you!
According to Reuters, Ryan Seacrest’s media company is expressing an interest in buying Dick Clark Productions — which is responsible for such shows as the American Music Awards and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. There’s no more details available just yet, but remember that Ryan has long listed Dick Clark as one of his biggest inspirations in life.
As always, be sure to check back for more of the latest “Idol” news!
