‘Saturday Night Live’ CarterMatt Podcast: Talking Brie Larson’s show with Jason Prager; plus, ratings!
For the final three weeks of this season here at CarterMatt, we are going to be doing something a little bit different from the mold, and podcasting a show in “Saturday Night Live” that we’ve enjoyed taking on a few times over the years. While we wait for some new programming to podcast with Jason Prager this summer, this is a nice appetizer.
In the video / audio file below, you can check out precisely what we have to say about this particular season of the show, and specifically, what we thought was a solid episode hosted by Brie Larson last night. We’ll go through many of the sketches, but gloss over for the most part the performances from Alicia Keys since that is really not either of our fortes. We discuss what worked (much of “Weekend Update”), what didn’t (“The Cut”), and also what we’re projecting from the final episodes of the season. This really blew by for us insofar as time goes, so we really hope it is as enjoyable and fun for most of you listening, as well.
For those of you wondering about the ratings last night, the show generated a 1.9 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. While not a door-breaker by any means, that does match many of the show’s stronger outings this spring. Excluding the Prince tribute, this also ties the show’s best rating since the Melissa McCarthy episode in February.
Will next week’s show featuring Drake as a host and musical guest top that? It’s possible, since we know the rapper has an intense fan following, and his last outing on the show was solid creatively. We’ll have to wait and see what viewers want to check out that weekend.
