I like story lines that are no more than two episodes long. After that they become a mini series no more than four episodes long. After that they become a movie. I like stand alone single episodes because I like instant gratification as apparently most fans do otherwise they would not be leaving the show. As an additional thought it appears that the show runners finally realize that that is what the fans want because their announced plans are to return to that format in season 9 if there is one. With regard to unnecessarily long story lines Nathan hit the nail on the head when he said that the fans get bored in the waiting.
