For those of you who were worried that “Dexter” was going to deprive you of seeing every detail of Deb’s reaction to her brother killing Travis Marshall, get ready for some comforting news. Not only will the season 7 premiere pick up exactly where the finale left off, but we are going to see Jennifer Carpenter’s character wrestling with many of the feelings that she has for her brother. (Yes, this does include some of the controversial ones from the end of last season.)
Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Scott Buck had the following to say about the direction “Dexter” is going to take with the issue of the big reveal:
“Viewers might think we shy away from that moment of Debra walking in and seeing Dexter stabbing into Travis’ chest, but it’s just the opposite … She now has to deal with what she’s seen and what she knows. And it forces him to defend and define himself.”
Buck also once again laughed at the notion that fans are weirded out about a woman having feelings for her adopted brother on a show featuring a serial killer, and said that, for better or for worse, they are not going to pull a 180 on the “Deb loves Dex” storyline — though it’s pretty easy to see these feelings changing now that Deb knows the truth about what Dexter has been doing behind her back.
At the moment, it appears as though Ray Stephenson’s character of an Eastern European mobster / club owner is going to be one of the big bads for the season — though we hope that there is some sort of twist to make him a little bit different than all of the other people we have seen in this role over the years.
“Dexter” returns to Showtime (controversy included) on September 30. Are you excited to see how the show handles Deb’s reaction?
