‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 5 preview: Shelagh, Dr. Turner look to the future

Shelagh -

We’ve talked often about the impact of change on the world of “Call the Midwife,” and we’re here now with a reminder that this is going to rear its head early and often moving into the next new episode of the show. You’re going to see even children like Timothy Turner starting to realize that there are things that need to change with his own parents. This will be a key episode, and it also will give characters like Fred a chance to shine who really have not had many opportunities to do so over the course of the series so far.

As per usual, the official synopsis below via the BBC serves as a great opportunity to learn a thing or two more in terms of what to expect:

“With modern advances starting to change things for the better, even medical professionals like Dr Turner and Shelagh are forced to consider their own lifestyles. As they fight for better respiratory health for their patients, Timothy realises the risks his parents are running by continuing to smoke.

“Meanwhile, a back injury forces Violet to put her beloved shop in Fred’s care, with unforeseen consequences.

“Across Poplar, another family unit appears to be broken before it has begun, as new mother Roseanne’s past continues to haunt her and wreaks havoc on her family life. Nurse Crane is concerned about her mental state and has to draw on her own experiences to help.”

We do wish that we had some further details in here regarding the stories for characters like Trixie and Barbara, but rest assured that their omission here does not necessarily mean that we are guaranteed to see little of them in this episode. This is just a show with a wide array of different priorities.
