As entertaining as Neil Patrick Harris may be, he alone did not draw some big numbers for a 2012 Tony Awards that lacked the sort of big-production flair as some in years past.
CBS – Overall, the awards show drew only a 1.0 rating in the ad-friendly 18-49 demographic — the lowest number for the show in the past 20 years — even if its audience of 6 million total viewers was more respectable. “60 Minutes” preceded the show with a 1.1 rating.
ABC – The only other network to air three full hours of new programming, both “Secret Millionaire” and “Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition” were steady with the same 1.5 ratings that they scored in their premiere last week.
NBC – The only other new program on network TV was a two-hour “Dateline,” which posted a 1.2 rating.
