For our Monday morning edition of “American Idol” notes, we are focusing a good bit on commentary … and also videos!
Phillip Phillips’ new endorsement – It’s now been over two weeks since Phillip Phillips was declared the champion of season 11, and he is getting some compliments courtesy of one of the show’s biggest stars.
Speaking to MTV News in the United Kingdom, Adam Lambert defended the show’s voting by saying it is largely about who America has a hunger for at the time they are casting their votes:
“I really enjoyed American Idol this year, I thought it was the best talent they’ve had in a while. The final three were amazing … When it gets down to the end it’s not necessarily the best singer, it’s more about the majority of the voting audience and what style they’re into.”
Even though there has been some controversy when it comes to whether or not Phillip or Jessica Sanchez should have ended up winning this season, it ultimately doesn’t matter so much — what will really be important is seeing how their debut albums fare in stores.
Haley Reinhart has airplay surge – Could “Free” finally be on to something great on the radio? The show has enjoyed a slow climb for much of the spring, but is now starting to see some of its biggest growth yet on the Hot AC chart.
Overall, the track from “Listen Up!” is up over 110 radio spins from the past week — an increase that is better than Kris Allen’s “The Vision of Love,” Lambert’s “Never Close Our Eyes,” and Carrie Underwood’s “Good Girl” combined. Only Kelly Clarkson is rising faster among “Idol” stars in the top 40 of the chart — though Phillip’s coronation song “Home” is quickly working its way into contention.
Casey talks “The Simple Life” – We’ll close with a brief (but fun) video showing Casey Abrams working on his new single “The Simple Life” — which he recorded at a rather unique studio in London.
It’s really just hard not to love this song, or any of the music from Casey’s upcoming self-titled debut.
As always, check back for more “American Idol” news!
