‘American Idol’ notes: Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, and Haley Reinhart

Phillip's in recovery.

We have some big news leading off our Sunday morning edition of “American Idol” notes — Phillip Phillips is speaking out for the first time about the recent surgery that he had done to fix a kidney problem.

In a new message on Twitter, the season 11 winner says that he is recovering nicely:

“Just want to tell everyone thank you for the concerns and prayers, it means a lot to my family and I. Im just resting and healing.”

Phillip has been adamant that he is not planning on missing a single date for the show’s live tour — which officially kicks off next month. However, he’s going to have to rest up quickly in order to ensure that happens without any complications.

Jessica’s National Anthem – We’ve been teasing for quite some time that Jessica Sanchez was performing the National Anthem at the Manny Pacquiao fight on Saturday night — and now we have the video!

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that Sanchez gives a stunning rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” in particular because this is the second time she has performed it in the past month. What is surprising, however, is that Pacquiao ended up losing the fight to Timothy Bradley in a controversial split decision.

Haley meets … Wayne Brady? – We’re closing with something that is rather random, but also rather fun — Haley Reinhart got an opportunity to meet a pop-culture hero!

After meeting Wayne Brady this weekend, the season 10 alum wrote to him on Twitter that she was a “big fan” of his work — and by that, we’re wondering if she is talking about “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” (arguably one of the greatest improv shows of all time) or his “Chappelle’s Show” sketch that completely changed his image.

As always, be sure to stay tuned for more of the latest “Idol” news!
