It now officially looks officially like the “American Idol” tour will be taking a page from the season 11 playbook — specifically when it comes to performing a concert in Southeast Asia.
According to PhilippinesConcerts.com, the top ten from this season will be appearing at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila on September 21 for a concert. Considering that there were two shows last year, it’s possible that another one could be booked, as well.
While “American Idol” (along with a number of other shows from the United States) is popular in the Philippines, there is a specific reason why it has fared so well this season — Jessica Sanchez, who has emerged as a major star in the country thanks to her heritage (and incredible singing talent). She was born in the United States, but is half-Filipino and half-Hispanic. As previously reported, she has already met the country’s President, and is also singing the National Anthem Saturday night at the Manny Pacquiao boxing match.
This is the third time in recent years that an “Idol” contestant has had strong ties to the country — Thia Megia and David Archuleta are two of the other recent “Idols” to end up becoming incredibly popular overseas.
Even though Sanchez is without a doubt going to be the star of the event, expect Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet, and plenty of other stars to receive their own fair share of applause.
