Tim Poe is still trying to do damage control in the wake of one of the most controversial auditions in the history of “America’s Got Talent,” and at the end of the week he gave his first TV interview on the subject of whether or not he intentionally lied to producers in order to get more camera time and to have a successful audition as a country singer.
Speaking in a tearful interview with Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA, Poe says that he is sorry to anyone who may feel duped by some of his claims — but at the same time, he is still fighting the notion of him actually lying to anyone:
“I don’t feel like I’ve lied. That’s what’s driving me crazy, because I truly thought things have happened to me.”
The stutter that Poe had at times during his audition was all but gone at times during this interview, as he instead told a story about not being able to remember what happened to him while serving in the military. He claimed to originally be in Iraq, though that has now been disproven.
The interview also contains quotes from a woman named Donna, who feels “slapped in the face” by Poe after her charity helped to pay his bills. She claimed that she never heard him stutter once before he first appeared on reality TV.
At the moment, “AGT” has still not rendered a final verdict as to whether or not Poe will continue in the competition, though they may be simply choosing to make him disappear from the show and never be heard from again. (Ultimately, the presentation of his story is also putting them in a bad light for their lack of research.)
Does Poe’s new interview change your opinion of him at all?
