‘The X Factor’ UK notes: Cher Lloyd and One Direction

The boys have achieved something new.

Who knew that “The X Factor” series 7 would be such a banner year from the show? We already know about the international success of One Direction’s debut album “Up All Night,” but what is currently making just as many headlines is how well Cher Lloyd is rising up the charts with her debut U.S. single “Want U Back.”

Just how well is the song doing? Since being released earlier this year, it has slowly risen up into the top 40 of the pop chart of the same name — and is now gaining faster than any song ranked from #30-40. Its current position is at #34, but at its current rate the song should enter the top 30 portion of the chart soon. (In case you haven’t seen the music video of the song made specifically for America, you can do so below.)

In turning to One Direction, it should come as no surprise at all that “What Makes You Beautiful” and their new single “One Thing” are each in the top 30 of the chart already, and they now have another accomplishment to add to it — selling more DVDs than anyone else sold in terms of albums. The group’s “Up All Night” concert video this past week sold 76,000 copies in this past sales frame, which was more than the #1 album on the Billboard 200 in John Mayer’s “Born and Raised” (which pushed 65,000 units in its second week). This is the first time in the history of the chart that this feat has been accomplished. (Meanwhile, the band’s “Up All Night” album is sitting at #4 on the 200 chart.)
