Canceled ‘The Secret Circle’ to receive no DVD release: Report

Sad news.

It was sad enough to hear that The CW was canceling “The Secret Circle” after just one season, but the news that is coming out now is pretty much tear-inducing.

According to a report from Zap2It, the show’s studio Warner Bros. TV is not planning to release the Kevin Williamson-produced show on DVD later this fall — a treatment that many shows often receive even after they are canceled. For those holding out the faintest bit of hope that the show could find a life later on down the road, this may be the final blow. Many series (see “Firefly” and “Family Guy” for some examples) have been able to find a cult following thanks to DVD sales and buzz after their cancellation, and have then gone on to find a second life in some shape or form. Unless new people start making a mad dash for iTunes (which is still not the preferred destination for TV episodes), any sort of revival in the future seems incredibly unlikely.

As sad as it is, this may now officially be the time to put the nail in the “Circle” and remember it for the good times it provided. Every season has a few painful departures, and this year it, “Pan Am,” and “Community” (which may have well have been canceled after its studio dismissed creator Dan Harmon) still have us licking our wounds.

How upset are you over the lack of a DVD release?
