‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Ian Somerhalder meets President Obama

Ian had a chance to meet the President.

It’s not often that one of the most-popular vampires on TV gets to meet the President of the United States, but this very thing happened on Thursday morning as a part of an event Barack Obama was holding in California to utilize Hollywood’s biggest stars as a way to encourage young people to vote.

Ian Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries” joined such people as Zach Braff, Zachary Quinto, and a man with past White House connections to Obama in Kal Penn, and following his brief discussion with the Commander-In-Chief he posted the photo to the left on Twitter along with this caption:

“Just spent my morning w/this man talkn green energy,a better America & being a young American-wow”

The meeting was especially meaningful for Ian thanks to his self-created foundation (Ian Somerhalder Foundation) and his commitment to finding green solutions to common energy problems. It is a cause that has been near and dear to his heart for years, and some of his contributions in the field of protecting animals were recently recognized by The Humane Society.

Ian will be seen next promoting “TVD” at Comic-Con in July, and immediately following this the show will kick off shooting its fourth season.

How cool of an honor do you think this is for Ian?
