This is my country, my heritage and my history and this is the period I have studied most closely. The books were the error strewn smutty fantasies of a middle-aged woman with an unhealthy interest in the sexual abuse of a young man. The TV show made the book look high quality in comparison and were an absolute insult to Scotland. Even the physical portrayal of Scotland was drab and less compelling that half the phone cam shots you see on YT.
