If Starz were really serious about showing its support for “Outlander” in competition for Golden Globes, Emmys, and other industry awards, why would it not have renewed “Outlander” for a third season before now, ahead of these prestigious nominations? Starz renewed the dismal “Ash vs. Evil Dead” for a second year BEFORE its premiere in late October, as a Halloween treat. Before the third season of “Black Sails” even airs, Starz has renewed that male-centric franchise for a fourth season (most of the women in it are prostitutes). About a show that appeals to women, like “Outlander” (even in its repackaging as an epic narrative about two men duking it out), Starz does NOTHING substantive to show its support. Intelligent viewers and industry insiders–the people who select candidates for Golden Globe and Emmy nominations and eventually vote in the winners–can read this handwriting on the wall: It spells disdain and indifference on the part of Starz toward the “Outlander” enterprise.
